Q&A: How much can an international student earn in Australia? (Updated 2020)

According to Study in Australia, the official Australian Government website for international students: "most student visas allow you to work for up to 40 hours every two weeks while your course is in session, and unrestricted hours during any scheduled course break". In addition, we need to consider the national minimum wage, which is $19.49 per hour, or $740.80 per 38-hour week (before tax).

Let's say an international student works for 20 hours per week for $19.49 per hour, this student will be earning at least $389.80 per week (before tax). In case this student can work full-time, for example during the school holidays, he/she can be earning $740.80 (before tax).

Please note that some jobs pay $25 or even $30+ per hour depending on the job position and industry.
